For more than a decade, Mangan Holcomb has partnered with the Keep Arkansas Beautiful Commission to help promote its mission. In that time, we’ve created some memorable messages about anti-littering, recycling and beautification. But, we needed to create one comprehensive message that would inspire individual action. After all, improving the environment starts at home. Coupling the research findings with a growing interest in the Green Movement, the marketing path became clear: it was time for Arkansas to Shine!

The public-awareness campaign, Shine – Keep Arkansas Clean & Green™, seeks to educate Arkansans about the simple, personal actions – such as disposing of cigarette butts properly, recycling household items like newspaper and plastic bottles, and carpooling – that make a larger impact on the state’s environmental quality of life. The goal of the “Shine” effort is to educate Arkansans and visitors about how easy it is to keep The Natural State clean and green, and why it’s important to do so.
Phase 1 of the multimedia campaign debuted on Earth Day 2008; Phase 2 launched in the fall of 2009. The evolution of the Shine campaign provides a fresh, but familiar look for Arkansans. The seven ads created in 2009 are stylistically similar to the original campaign, but offer new ideas for helping Keep Arkansas Clean & Green. Maintaining the look and feel of the original campaign helped the agency extend limited taxpayer dollars by creating a new set of ads that can be used in conjunction with existing ads, essentially doubling the library of available messages.
