In the spring of 2005, the Rotary Club of Little Rock and KIDsource KIDS made the commitment to build a Miracle League field in central Arkansas. Miracle League’s mission is to provide opportunities for children with disabilities to play baseball, America’s pastime, in a safe environment regardless of their abilities. During the first two seasons of Miracle League in Little Rock, with participation starting at four teams, the magnitude of the need for such a program was evident. The Miracle League board knew that many children would benefit from the league; the key was informing their parents that the league was available. As a supporter of the Miracle League since its inception, Mangan Holcomb Partners volunteered its services to assist in spreading the word that such a needed and beneficial program is available to central Arkansas children.
Increasing awareness was the key to increasing participation; the program needed visibility with a broad audience. Mangan Holcomb Partners created a series of billboards featuring professional baseball players Cliff Lee (pitcher, Cleveland Indians), A.J. Burnett (pitcher, New York Yankees) and Dustin Moseley (pitcher, Anaheim Angels), all of whom have Arkansas ties. The number of Miracle League participants has grown from 40 players in one league in 2006 to more than 300 players in three leagues in 2009. The program has also added an adult league and a youth competitive league and is finalizing plans to build a second Miracle League field in northwest Arkansas.
